“It Is A Privilege To Be Loved By Me”
by Julianne Marella Villegas
“It Is A Privilege To Be Loved By Me” is a fabric-dyed and hand-printed textile piece and is an introduction to a larger series of work. The piece is a self-affirmation and self-proclamation in line with ideas of radical kindness and unreserved tenderness towards the self.
As a queer Pinxy artist, Julianne Marella Villegas re-contextualizes generational trauma and creates spaces for healing through icons of the Filipino-American diaspora and their own family archive. Residing in Oakland, CA, Villegas recently debuted their thesis exhibition, “Walang Hiya,” and is finishing up their BFA in Printmaking from California College of the Arts.
